[Adobe® Flash® Catalyst CS5 - What is Flash® Catalyst]
Doug Winnie - Principal Product Manager, FlashCatalyst]
Let's take a few moments before we jump into Flash Catalyst
and talk a little bit more about what it is used to create.
Flash Catalyst is an application for interaction design
that can also build interactive websites, small-based websites,
or applications, without having to build any code.
A graphic designer can create an application or a website using Flash Catalyst
without having to hand off to a developer, and they can decide all on their own.
Or, through partnership with a developer, they can develop a user interface for an application,
hand that application design off to a developer,
to then connect to live data or data services using Flash Builder.
An example website is one that we have here.
This is a sample website that we will be using in some of these videos
that talks about the SF Aquatic Museum.
It is a fictional place, but we use this as a demonstration
to show what you can make with Flash Catalyst.
As you can see, we've got videos playing in the background,
and we have this navigation component down at the bottom
that has been built completely without writing any code.
The scroll bar on the right controlling this text area,
as well as the video player here in the center,
are all adding using the design tools of Illustrator, Photoshop,
and Flash Catalyst together to create this example website.
As you use Flash Catalyst, you'll find that you're able to use all of your existing skills
from your Creative Suite design tools--like Fireworks, Photoshop, and Illustrator,
and use those same skills to build interactive websites and interactive applications
using Adobe's powerful flex framework--
all without having to know any of the code behind the scenes.
