Using Adobe Captivate, you can record any application that is open on your computer,
and the actions you perform are captured as separate slides.
In this tutorial, you will learn the general steps you must perform before you
proceed to recording in any modes.
To record an application, you choose "software simulation" from the welcome screen,
or you can select "file" followed by "record new project."
You would select "application" if you want to specify the application you
want to record as part of your project.
n this case, we will choose Adobe Photoshop CS 5 from the select application menu.
You would choose "application window" when you want the dimensions of
the recorded project to be set to the size of your application window.
Choose "application region" when you want the dimensions of the recorded project
to be set to the specified regions of the application being recorded.
For example, if you are recording a window that has two frames, the recording window
snaps two individual frames when the mouse moves over them.
Here, the recording window selects the inner frame of the open dialog box.
Selecting "custom size" sets the recording window to the specified dimensions.
All applications that appear within that window are then recorded.
Specify the dimensions using the available options.
You can choose from a standard list of sizes in the menu or set your own custom options.
Choose "screen area" when you want to record all the applications that are
being used on your computer screen.
If you want to set the size of the recording window to that of your entire screen,
then choose "full screen."
All events taking place on your screen are recorded using the dimensions
set from your computer screen.
If you are working on dual monitors, you can choose the monitor
you wish to record from.
Selecting "custom size" sets the recording window to the specified dimensions.
You can record in any of the following modes: automatic, which generates
a set of slides after you have completed the recording.
You can edit the slides later.
Full motion generates the slides that contain a video capture.
Manual, you must manually capture screen shots during the recording process.
Select "automatic" when you want to auto record your projects.
Wherever possible, you should always try to use the automatic recording mode.
Choose "full motion" if you want to record using full motion recording.
Select "manual" if you want to manually capture your projects.
With Adobe Captivate, you can record in multiple modes at the same time.
Select "demo" when you want to create a Captivate project that a learner can only view.
Choose "assessment" when you want to create a project that tests a learner's standing.
Select "training" when you want the learner to try out some of the
interactions in the project.
Choose "custom" when you want to create a mix of the other three options
or want to further customize the slides.
Adobe Captivate includes both automatic and manual panning of the capture window
while recording your screens.
In the automatic panning mode, the recording window moves along with the mouse.
With manual panning, you must manually move the recording window
to the desired location.
If you're adding voice over to the project, you can select an option
from where the application can capture the audio.
Use the recording preferences to customize the currently selected recording
Adobe Captivate mode.
Click "record" after you have completed setting the options.
Adobe Captivate provides you with a handy coutdown before the first screen is captured.
After you have finished recording, you press the end key on your keyboard.
The project now opens in the film strip view.
