[Lightroom for Travel Photography]
Slideshows can be a great way to share your travel photos
perhaps to your camera club when you return home
or even with an ad hoc presentation in a coffee shop while you are still on your trip.
Lightroom makes it very easy to create a slideshow
of a select group of images from your trip.
In this case, I’ve gone through my photos
and I’ve marked those that I’d like to include in a slideshow with the pick flag.
In other words, I want to show my favorite images from the trip.
So I’ll start off by turning on the filter for the filmstrip.
I’ll specify that I want to see only images that have a pick flag,
and that gets me down to, in this case, 16 images out of a total of 197 in the current folder.
With that filter applied I can switch to the Slideshow module
so that I can specify the settings for my slideshow.
You can start with a particular template found over on the left panel.
I can then go to the right panel and adjust the specific settings for the images.
I’ve included a black stroke border, for example.
There is a cast shadow, but in this case it won’t be visible
since the background is currently black.
But I do think that I’m going to change that background color.
I’ll turn off the Color Wash, and I will change the Background Color.
I’ll simply click the color swatch for Background Color
and then choose a nice dark shade of gray and close that color picker.
Now I’ll be able to see the drop shadow,
and I have a nice neutral background for my images to appear on.
I can continue going through all of these various settings
in order to change the appearance of my slideshow presentation
as well as to change the playback options.
I could add a soundtrack if I wanted to.
I can also adjust the slide duration.
So, for example, I might take the duration up to 5 seconds,
perhaps take that transition down to 2 seconds.
I can also choose to have the images appear in a random order,
which in this case I think I will just to add a little bit more dynamic quality to the slideshow.
I can also set it to repeat so that the slideshow will just keep playing
until I press Escape to stop it.
I also want to turn on the option to Prepare Previews in Advance.
That means that the slideshow won’t start immediately when I click the play button,
but it will make sure that the slideshow can then play back unencumbered.
With all those settings established the way I’d like them,
I think I’ll save a template so that I can very quickly create future slideshows
with the same appearance.
So over on the left panel I’ll click the Plus next to Template Browser
and I’ll type a name for this template.
I’ll just call this Gray Background and I’ll click Create.
And now I have a user template that I can use to make a slideshow
with other images even faster.
Once I have my slideshow ready to go,
I can click the Play button at the bottom of the right panel.
Lightroom will process my images
and it will begin the slideshow presentation.
So as you can see, it’s very, very simple to create a slideshow
to share your images with others.
