Flash Professional CS5.5 allows you to scale contents of a file
when you resize the stage.
This is great if you need to target different devices that vary in screen size,
say, for instance, everything from a tablet device
to a smaller smartphone.
So let's go ahead and take a look.
Here I have a file open, and it is for an IOS, an iPhone device,
and what I want to do is I want to resize it for an Android device.
So the first thing I'm going to do is I'm just going to go into the preferences for Flash.
So Flash, Preferences.
Notice right down here we have Scale Content, so you can actually check
on or off any of these boxes, but I do want to align the top left contents,
from the top left, so that's where it's going to scale from.
And I'm going to include the locked and hidden layers as well.
So I'll just select OK.
Again, here is my file.
I'll go over to the Properties panel.
Now I could edit the size right here, but what I want to do is
I want to go ahead and edit the document properties.
So I'll select that.
Right in here--again, this is going to be for an Android device,
so I'll make it 480 x 800.
There we are. Notice how I can now check either one of these boxes.
So I can adjust the 3D perspective angle, if I want to; in this case I don't have any 3D,
so that's fine. I actually just want to scale the content with the stage.
So with that checked, I'll click OK.
Sure enough, it resizes everything, and it shows me that
over here in the properties panel.
So, again, that looks pretty good.
I'm going to go ahead and change my viewing area to Fit in Window.
You can see it's scaled everything.
So I can come in here and--you know--just with my selection tool
I can go ahead and jump in here and say select that background,
use the transform tool and scale that down, and really start to adjust
this content just to make sure that it fits within this space just fine for this new screen size.
If I hit the Q key I can automatically switch to that transform tool
and just make sure everything fits in here nice and neat.
Another trick you can do is since I do need to move this down, I can select both items
and since I need to move the Y position, say, an additional 50 pixels,
I can just do a plus 50, just like that, and move that down.
But really the goal is to make sure this content fits appropriately
for an Android device.
So, really, within minutes I was able to take a file that was set up for an iPhone
and actually make it set up for an Android device.
But I can go beyond that as well.
So if I lock down this layer of buttons and text--
I'm going to lock that down, and I'm going to go into my preferences,
and I don't want to include the locked and hidden layers.
So, again, I can control what I want to scale.
So, again, that's unchecked, select OK, and I'll go into my properties panel,
and now let's go ahead and resize this for a tablet-sized device.
I can say 600 x 1024.
So that's more like the size of the Galaxy Tab, check that box, of course,
select OK, and then there we are.
It scales everything up except for this layer right here,
and that's perfect because I don't want to scale up these buttons for a Galaxy Tab.
I actually just want to make sure everything scales up except for my buttons
and some of my content.
Selecting those items and moving them into place,
and quickly I'm able to take what was set up for a Droid device, an Android device,
a smartphone, and change it so it, of course, fits for more of a tablet size.
And again, this one easy feature, literally coming in here and
scaling the content with the stage can really help out a lot
when you need to scale up content for different screen sizes and project requirements.
It's done very easily through this one document settings dialog box.
So thanks for watching.
