One of the new features of Flash Professional CS5.5 is the ability to
export vector graphics as bitmap images.
This is great if you are producing content for mobile devices
because bitmaps are much easier for these devices to handle
over complex vector graphics.
In my file, notice that I do have a couple graphics.
I have this background graphic, and it is a vector graphic.
And if I select it in my Properties panel, I can go ahead and change it
to Cache as Bitmap.
That means it will go ahead and treat it as a bitmap at runtime.
Not only that, I can go ahead and change the background to opaque,
and even pick a particular color.
So that's what I can do is I can use Cache as Bitmap,
and at runtime it will treat it as a bitmap.
But really, what I could also do is I could select, say, for instance,
this graphic right here--again, a complex vector graphic.
And in my properties panel, I can select Export as Bitmap.
And if I select that, what that means is it will go ahead and make that
a bitmap when you actually publish out this file.
In fact, if I scale up this graphic, you can see it actually is
going to treat it as a bitmap.
But still, if I release, notice that it's still vector information.
So it is still editable within Flash, but then again, when I publish this file out,
this graphic and everything that's selected with Export as Bitmap
it will actually go ahead and create a bitmap out of it.
So, again, I'll just drop it back into place.
It doesn't matter. I can scale it up or down.
It just matters when I publish this file it will go ahead and convert it into a bitmap.
That's going to be really helpful, because if it's a bitmap,
it's going to work well on mobile devices.
So, again, really easy to do, all in Flash Professional CS5.5.
Thanks for watching.
