Hi, I'm Scott Fegette, product manager for Dreamweaver.
In the last episode, we looked at
Dynamically-Rated Files and how Dreamweaver
can help you get all of those references
to all the assets you need to work with a
dynamic application like--
in this case--WordPress.
In this video, we're going to talk about
a great new feature for working with the
different design views of an application:
Live View Navigation.
You'll see in Dreamweaver CS5, we've got an address bar.
So Dreamweaver is becoming--at least in my view--a lot more like a browser,
which takes away the need for you to jump back and forth through a browser;
but it also gives you the way to work with applications
a lot more holistically than ever before--at least in regard to their design.
So, in this case, we don't want to work with the home page of the WordPress application,
We want to work with a post page.
Now, that's not really a page--it's actually a view that's generated by the application,
but since we're already showing this WordPress app we're running here--
live off of a local test server--
it's really easy for me now to use Navigation Mode to hold down a modifier key--
I'm going to hold down Command on my Macintosh,
but you can also down Control on a PC.
Click on this title, and we've gone right to a posting page.
So here you have it--I'm at a Dynamic View of this application.
And now we can use all of Dreamweaver CS5's design tools
to start working effectively with this designer theme
So I''m going to turn on Inspect Mode and let's deal with a problem
that I've been looking at for a little while here, that's been kind of bothering me.
In this case, I can see there's a whole bunch of margin around these form elements
and all this white space is giving me a headache,
so I want to come in and tighten this up a bit.
Let's go from 15 pixels top, and bottom margin to--say-- maybe just 2 pixels.
Top and bottom margin--and there you go.
I can see really quickly how that's going to look and--not just how it's going to look--
that's actually made that update.
I can go and save all related files now and my application looks great.
I can check that by, for example, going back to the home page
and maybe looking at a different post--say this Trash Treasure post.
and, sure enough, that nice, tight design theme's carried right over.
We've essentially made this change to our layout working live
on a WordPress application here in Dreamweaver CS5.
So I hope you enjoyed this little peek into the Dynamic Application Design
functions in Dreamweaver CS5
In the next episode, we're going to take a look
at Adobe Browser Lab--an exciting
new service for cross-browser testing.
It helps get you access to all those browsers
on alternate operating systems that
you may not have access to locally,
but you really need access to in order to
design effectively.
So join me for the next one--
and I'll see you there!
