Dennis Publishing was launched in 1973,
and we're based in London in the heart of media land, near SoHo.
[James Billington, Editor, iGIZMO]
We've got nearly 50 titles on our books,
ranging from print to digital, mobile websites, and websites.
iGIZMO is aimed at the real gadget lovers
and those who have a keen interest consumer technology as well.
Since we launched on the iPad back in September 2010,
we've been to the top of the iTunes charts twice.
We really do dedicate ourselves to bringing people
the latest and greatest shiny, awesome toys they want to spend their money on.
[Ross Burridge, Head of Emergng Platforms, Dennis Publishing]
Bringing iGIZMO to the iPad was a really big step forward,
principally because one of the great things about the iPad
is that the hardware disappears into the background,
and editorially it just brings the content right to the fore,
so the user experience is just so much more of a pleasure.
When we first saw iGIZMO on the tablet,
we were blown away.
It really felt like this product was designed for this platform.
Everything was so immediate.
It was much more of a tangible reading experience.
And it goes well beyond what you read in a traditional sense.
You play with features, and you can watch videos,
look at 360s, panoramas.
It was so much more engaging,
and it's almost like a new form of light entertainment
rather than a reading experience.
[Russell Clark, Creative Director, iGIZMO]
Creating tablet editions of iGIZMO using the Digital Publishing tools
has been a challenge, but we've been making digital magazines
for a number of years not using Adobe Flash based technology,
so incorporating our workflow to accommodate the tablets
has been surprisingly easy.
Digital Publishing tools offer a very straightforward and logical process
to making these magazines.
So adapting our workflow was very easy,
and it's made for a very efficient production process
in terms of making these magazines.
It's a massively complicated process to get from
an editorial idea through to a fully-fledged digital magazine and make it look easy.
What was attractive about the Adobe solution
was that every single little stage of that had been really well thought through.
We started off on the iPad, which has been fantastically successful.
We've moved on to Android, so there are versions of iGIZMO
that work on the Zune and on the Galaxy Tab.
We've got versions for BlackBerry PlayBook,
and we'll certainly be considering other tablets when they arrive.
[Jonathan Kitchen, Commercial Director, Dennis Publishing]
The tablet application going live has seen a constant increase in new readers.
These are readers that are coming to brands like iGIZMO's digital-only magazine.
They are new readers that are finding it on the iPad.
We're seeing an increase of 2000-5000 new readers every week.
The iPad edition has given us the opportunity to talk to
a huge amount of advertisers, actually.
We've created bespoke campaigns for HTC, for Disney,
for Range Rover, and also for Mercedes,
and that's, again, across our portfolio of digital magazines,
which we wouldn't have had an opportunity to work with
without certainly the tools and the magazines themselves.
The Digital Publishing Suite tools are really cool
because it gives me the opportunity to make stuff that I used to dream about as a kid--
touch interfaces and tablet devices and all these products
that used to only exist in science fiction and are now reality,
and as a designer, being able to produce work for that
is incredibly exciting and good fun.
Going forward, there's so much we can do
with the platform and the product itself.
The possibilities are endless.
