[Digital Publishing Suite Newsstand apps on iOS 5]
[with Colin Fleming 14 October 2011]
Hi, Colin Fleming here. I'm Adobe's Digital Publishing evangelist.
We're going to talk a little bit about Newsstand.
Now, earlier this week, Apple released the new iOS 5,
and one of the new features is Newsstand.
The nice thing about Newsstand is
my publications--my periodical content--
be it magazines or newspapers, appear in this special zone on my iPad.
That helps to isolate and really promote my content
and separate it from the vastness of applications in general.
So I wanted to give you a quick update
on some of the publishers who have built applications
using the Digital Publishing Suite which supports Newsstand.
Now, these publishers include Reader's Digest, various titles from Bonnier,
National Geographic, and a number of Conde Nast titles.
We can see here in Newsstand on my iPad,
I've got Reader's Digest, and when I go into Reader's Digest,
I see the opportunity to subscribe of access content
as a subscriber to the print version.
And I see the library of content that I can either purchase, download, or read.
Now let's take a look at another title, for instance, maybe National Geographic.
So one of the cool things I can see here with National Geographic is
I've got a new issue ready to download,
and it actually started all on its own.
A Newsstand application can download the information
in the background so that once it's all there,
I'll be notified of the new material ready for me to read,
and I just go and open it up.
I don't have to wait for the download to occur.
So if I come back to Newsstand and take a peek here,
the last detail I want to share with you is
that one of the cool aspects for a publisher
is that the most recent content is what's visible in the newsstand.
It's not the last issue that I bought as a reader.
It's the currently available issue for any reader.
And it's important to note that this Newsstand support
is only available to Digital Publishing Suite subscribers
at the Pro or Enterprise level.
That's where you're going to get this interaction
with Newsstand and an improved experience for your readers.
So there you go, a quick peek at what's really cool about Newsstand conent
for Pro and Enterprise customers of DPS.
I hope you enjoyed this. Thanks.
