Maintaining a consistent look and feel between projects can be a tedious process.
All that has changed with Flash Professional CS5.5,
allowing you to share assets across multiple FLA files.
Here's the file I currently have open, Meridian iOS, and what I'm going to do is
I'm going to go ahead and make a new project.
So with this project panel open, I'm going to go ahead and Select New Project
from the drop-down, and I'm going to point to the folder that contains this FLA file.
So I'll point to that folder, happens to be on my hard drive. Here it is.
There's my file. And I'm going to select Choose.
Here I can also create a default document.
I don't need to in this case. I'm just going to click Create Project.
And there we are. It has all of those folders in that same folder,
but it also creates this authored time shared assets FLA.
So what I want to do is I want to go ahead and share some of these assets
currently in this Meridian iOS FLA file with a new one called Android FLA.
So the assets I want to share happen to be this movie clip right here,
so if I go to my library panel it happens to be Screen Home.
Notice how I get this column right here, and all I need to do to share that asset,
is click that checkbox right there.
It will save it out to that authored time shared assets FLA file.
I'll go ahead and save this FLA.
Now I'm going to go ahead and save a new file,
and in this case this is going to be my Android version.
Meridian Android, saving it to that same location. Click Save.
In this version, this file is actually going to be larger,
so I'm going to edit the document properties.
I'll just change it to 600 x 900.
I'm going to scale all the content because, again, I'm going to use this file
to make an Android app.
So there it is--Meridian Android FLA.
I'll go into the library panel. You can see that that's still checked there.
But what I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and double-click
inside of the screen home, and notice how this illustration box is checked as well.
That's because the illustration file is within this screen home.
And that's really the file I want to edit.
So I'm going to double-click on it. I'm going to scroll down to the bottom,
and I'm just going to flip these two layers.
I'm going to show the sky dusk layer.
And what that does is it gives me this nice orange color for the sky.
So that looks good. That's the change I want to make.
I'll go back to scene 1, and I'll just save this file.
Keep in mind that it's part of this Meridian project.
I'll go into that project folder, and I'll just refresh by using that fly-out menu.
There are my two files. They're both sharing assets
that are stored right in here inside of this FLA file.
And what I'm going to do is I'm going to open up this Meridian iOS.
When I open it up, it will update that symbol from that shared library,
and there you have it. You can see that it updated that sky background.
So now they are sharing this same screen home and all associated files.
So that's all I need to do.
Just make sure it's part of a project, and then you can share assets
across multiple FLA files.
Really easy. Really efficient for your work flow.
So thanks for watching.
