Welcome back.
In this video, you'll learn how to create a business card
using the logo that we've already created.
We'll start by going over here to Adobe Illustrator.
Here we have the version on white,
which we're gonna be using to place onto our business card.
We're gonna be creating the business card in Adobe InDesign.
Here we have the finished business card in Adobe InDesign.
We have a front page and a back page.
Notice that it's using the logo,
but we've got customized text to fit the business card
with the information on the back
and a large printout of the name on the front.
The first thing I'll do is create a new document
by going to File menu at the top tool bar
and selecting New Document.
This can also be done by selecting Command N on the Mac
or Ctrl N on the PC.
Here we have the New Document window.
Since we're working with business cards,
we can actually select from preset
here where you see paper size, you can change it from Letter
to US Business Card.
Nothing else else needs to change at this point,
but you can customize your layouts depending on the needs of your print layout.
Here we have our new document.
I'll zoom back a little bit from the business card so I can see a little bit better,
using Command minus or Ctrl minus on a PC.
The first thing I'll do is use the Text tool to create a new frame
and fill it with Kelly Brant's name.
Now that I've typed out the text, I'm gonna increase the size
by going to the Font Size menu and making it a little a little bit larger,
say 30 points.
Then, I'll also change the font type.
Instead of Minion Pro, I'm gonna use Palatino Linotype.
I can see that it's a little bit big for the frame,
so I'm going to have to decrease the font size or increase the frame size.
I'll go ahead and decrease the font size a little bit.
That looks about right, 24 points.
I'll change back to my selection tool
by selecting it on the left-hand side.
Then I'm gonna rotate the text layer vertically
so that Kelly Brant's name is positioned
vertically and on the right-hand side.
You'll want to make sure it's exactly 90 degrees
so that it doesn't have any strange angles.
Then I'm gonna move it over to the right-hand side and place it.
The next thing I'm gonna do is copy the logo from Illustrator
and paste it into InDesign.
Let's go and do that.
I'm gonna go back to Illustrator,
and I'm gonna select the logo by using the Selection tool.
Then, using the Copy command, either found in the Edit menu
or by key command, Command C or Ctrl C on a PC.
Then I'm gonna return to InDesign
and create a graphic frame on the left-hand side using Rectangular Frame tool.
I created this frame by positioning my cursor at the top left-hand corner
of the business card frame and then dragging to the bottom right,
making a region that's just large enough to fit the logo.
Then I'll right-click using my mouse
and use the Paste Into.
This will allow me to paste the logo into place,
even though the logo is much larger than the frame.
What we have here is pretty interesting,
but we need to fit it in a little bit better.
To do this, I'm gonna have to access the layer
by going over to the right-hand side and accessing the Layers panel.
Within this graphic frame, you'll notice there's a group,
and inside there, there are different paths.
If you don't know what's what, you can turn the layers on and off
to select those individual paths.
The group within the graphic frame is the logo,
and I'll select that by using the selection feature on the right-hand side of the layer.
Then I'm gonna zoom back using my key command,
Command minus, or Ctrl minus on a PC
and then scaling it down by using my selection tool.
I scale it down while holding Shift
to ensure to keep the proportions in tact.
I can also reposition the item by just moving it around with the mouse.
I've gone ahead and completed this design with a couple of modifications
like changing the color.
The next thing we have to do is create the back of the card
so that we can include the information of Kelly Brant.
Here we have the back of the card
where we created a name, a little bit about the student,
as well as the phone number, e-mail, and Web site.
We can use the same techniques we used to create the front of the card
to create the back.
Now that we have the design,
we've gonna go and place the single card
on a 10-up layout,
which allows us to print 10 cards at a time.
You can do this at home using your own ink-jet printer.
I'm gonna open up the template that we have
by double-clicking it.
Notice that there is a page for the front of the card
as well as as page for the back of the card.
The next thing I'm gonna do is place the
InDesign document that I created previously
and place it into all 10 frames.
To do this, I'll return to my desktop
and locate the InDesign document that I created previously,
Kelly Brant Front.
Then I'm gonna simply drag this and drop it into the document
that has the 10-up layout,
clicking once to place it.
All I really need to do is place it into the document
and position it roughly in the position that I need
and the guides and snapping should do the rest for you.
Once I have 1 of the cards placed,
I'll simply hold the Alt key, select the card, and drag it over to the right,
and this will allow me to place 2 cards.
By holding the Alt key, clicking and dragging,
I can copy the document and place it into all of the additional frames.
We can do this by selecting both items
and holding the Alt key and copying it into all 10 positions.
Now that we've placed all 10 frames for the front,
we can repeat the steps and do the same for the back.
Then you're ready to print.
Kelly's got the tools she needs to do her networking and get out there
and continue to build her portfolio.
Thanks for watching.
