FrameMaker XML : Doc View to see Topic content
FrameMaker XML : Doc View to see Topic content
FrameMaker allows you to temporarily display a standard DITAmap in a "document" view. This shows all navtitles as hyperlinked headlings. This brief video reveals how a simple command allows you to expand all the content of a dita topic and make it visible from your doc view of the DITAmap. This is a tremendous time save when you are trying to locate the correct topic to edit based on visual cues like graphics and tables.

Vikram Verma: Responsive Design with Server-Side Components
Vikram Verma: Responsive Design with Server-Side Components
Adobe Product Manager, Vikram Verma, discusses why responsive design by itself is not the "holy grail" to solve all of tech comm industry problems. Vikram observes that more information is consumed by mobile phones, and desktop consumption is decreasing. The attention span of mobile users is half that of desktop users. It is essential to cater to mobile users. Responsive design with server-side components can allow you to create categories for output devices (e.g. tables, mobile, desktop) and optimize content to create separate responsive design websites. Once you have that, you integrate them all with server-side components like JavaScript which will direct the user to the appropriate version of the website to consume content appropriately.

FrameMaker and WORD: Table Title and Pagination Options
FrameMaker and WORD: Table Title and Pagination Options
FrameMaker is generally known for having "the best tables on the planet." Due to the many things you can do with tables, there are some pagination and formatting features that many users do not discover. This brief video reveals that: (a) Table Titles can go above or below the table, (b) that you can specify that a table start "anywhere" (e.g. below current line) or (c) the table "floats", allowing a backfill of text pagination if the table moves to the next column. The video also touches on how you control breaks with tables, or make a table "unbreakable" in pagination via table row formats. Although these are advanced features, they are very simple and logical to use. Watch the video and find out how "you can do it too!"
