Vikram Verma: Responsive Design with Server-Side Components
Vikram Verma: Responsive Design with Server-Side Components
Adobe Product Manager, Vikram Verma, discusses why responsive design by itself is not the "holy grail" to solve all of tech comm industry problems. Vikram observes that more information is consumed by mobile phones, and desktop consumption is decreasing. The attention span of mobile users is half that of desktop users. It is essential to cater to mobile users. Responsive design with server-side components can allow you to create categories for output devices (e.g. tables, mobile, desktop) and optimize content to create separate responsive design websites. Once you have that, you integrate them all with server-side components like JavaScript which will direct the user to the appropriate version of the website to consume content appropriately.

Neil Perlin: Merging of Mobile and TechComm
Neil Perlin: Merging of Mobile and TechComm
In this STC/Adobe booth interview, thought leader Neil Perlin discusses how techcomm Help authors went through a major sea change at WinWriter years ago when Microsoft announced that their Help would be based on HTML, vs. familiar *.chm files. Before that event, the world of techcomm and Help were separate silos. According to Perlin, many of us are still feeling our way around in mobile, as best methods are being defined. Many people are still trying to determine if they are to create eBooks, Apps, mobile Help. Look for several years of disruption as we experienced a dozen years ago when Help shifted to HTML.

Sneak Peek: Audio Layers
Sneak Peek: Audio Layers
Separating desired audio from background noise is a painful process. Or rather, it was. Use a visual editor to paint the sounds you want while identifying those you don't, and this tool will do the rest. It is early prototype technology that we are working on in our development labs. This is not part of any Adobe product but is an example of capabilities that we could include in future years.

Adobe After Effects CC: Refine Edge Tool
It's the end of hard matte lines. Keep the details when separating complicated foreground elements like frizzy hair or motion-blurred edges from complex backgrounds. This means you can create natural-looking composites without keying specially shot footage.

FrameMaker and Word: Table Styles
FrameMaker and Word: Table Styles
FrameMaker allows you to tag and change table styles as easily as paragraph styles. There is a separate catalog to view and choose table styles, and a Table Designer to swiftly create or modify new styles. See how easy it is to (a) modify existing table styles, (b) "update all" to globally update all tables with the same style name and (c) import table styles from one document into others. There is much more to FrameMaker tables, which will be covered in more episodes in this show.
