Editing Images with Natural Language: Photo editing can be a challenging task, and it becomes even more difficult on the small, portable screens of mobile devices that are now frequently used to capture and edit images. To address this problem we present PixelTone, a multimodal photo editing interface that combines speech and direct manipulation. We observe existing image editing practices and derive a set of principles that guide our design. In particular, we use natural language for expressing desired changes to an image, and sketching to localize these changes to specific regions. To support the language commonly used in photoediting we develop a customized natural language interpreter that maps user phrases to specific image processing operations. Finally, we perform a user study that evaluates and demonstrates the effectiveness of our interface.

A cocktail-style celebration at the AIGA National Design Center Gallery on 5th Avenue in New York City. Attendees were encouraged to get hands on with the new features in CS6 and Creative Cloud. They were able to sketch a design using Adobe Ideas on the iPad. The sketches were then sent (by syncing to Creative Cloud) to a panel of designers (3 designers from Coach Brands, and 1 from Limited Brands) who used the new pattern creation tools in Illustrator CS6 to turn the sketches into repeating patterns which we will then be printed on a custom messenger bag. We’ll be sending each attendee who participated their very own unique messenger bag in a few weeks.

Kyle Lambert is a fine artist based in the UK and was formally trained as an oil painter. He currently freelances and specializes in painting, illustration and animation. Used to the tactile nature of oil and canvas, Kyle naturally gravitated to the iPad to create digitally. Artist and Creative Director, Brian Yap, pushes the boundaries by being among the first to implement Touch app technology to design in a new way. Yap is able to achieve his pen and ink inspired look uncompromised with Adobe Ideas and saves the several steps of sketching, scanning and inking. Adobe Ideas has made his iPad his newest design tool. Although he designs in a cutting edge digital way with the iPad, the work that he creates can be printed in a very traditional method.
