Get an insightful tour of surface design and discover how it bridges the world of graphics, product design, textiles, and fine art. Your guide is Jessie Whipple Vickery of the Pattern People, a surface design studio founded by Vickery and designer Claudia Brown.Vickery and Brown will demonstrate:• How surface design is evolving from a textile-focused craft to encompass products, interiors, architecture, and the built environment• How patterns are found everywhere, and how to find inspiration for pattern design in the world around us• How surface design defines our identity, inspires our emotions, tells a story, and adds meaning to the products that surround us

The idea for the project came after the discussion with the students on the issues in the community and ways to solve them. Students recognized the importance of communication - at home, in the school and everywhere. They wanted to send that message through a short movie.

We talk to Chris Thompson, Head of Business Development at Ravensbourne the specialist school of Design and Communication. We’ll also talk to students and educators about Ravensbourne’s unique approach to design education, with the focus on technology and management.

Marc Lewis, pioneer of London’s new school dedicated to the art of advertising, will be joined by students in a look at the school’s innovative approach to learning. Students are mentored by award winners, a three year course is squeezed into one, and the focus is on ideas and creativity over execution.
